SO...........
We decided to hit the road on Saturday
Thought it would be a good
day to visit our niece
in Chatham
and have breakfast
at the William St. Cafe
then
head to the Windsor area
We
'all'
have our rain gear on
The ferry driver was
'on a run'
with the golf cart so we took
refuge in the club house
while we waited for the ferry
I have a feeling this guy is driving
to the junk yard
Yup
It's going to be a rainy day
Coming over the bridge we could see
the two steeples of St. Joseph's Church
where Joe and I were married
We turned down King St.
Drove past the Capital Theatre
It has been totally renovated and is used
for plays and concerts
It sure is a far cry from 1963....
Joe took me to the Capital Theatre
on our first date!
Our first stop
The William Street Cafe
Last fall a fire broke out in one of the upper apartments
Water damage destroyed the Cafe
It is to re-open in June
Our niece Susan took us on
a tour describing how it will look
There is going to be a wonderful
fireplace in the corner
The arch will open into the kitchen
serving area
which is now the
'makeshift' cafe
Here's Lindsey working in the little prep area
This is their motto
Susan found this sign right after the fire
WHAT A FIND
Susan's niece Jessica gave her this sign
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the teeny tiny cafe
It only has room for 4 little round tables
This is the coffee section
Behind is the arch
The Purple Pansy flower shop
is right around the corner
I often stop here when in
Chatham
Pick up a yellow rose and take it
to my Mom at
Maple Leaf Cemetary
We're now on the Bloomfield Sideroad
This was Aunt Mamie's home
When our son Graham was a young boy
Aunt Mamie would drive up to Corunna
pick up Graham and take him to her home
for a week during the summer
Next door is the Chinnick homestead
Joe's Mom lived in the home from the time of
her birth until her marriage
I asked Joe what his
favourite memory was
of the homestead....
'Climbing in the hay loft'
Just up the road is the former country
school where Joe's parents went
to school as children
Their initials are in the brick!!!!!
In the past there have been
many Chinnick O'Rourke
family gatherings
As you can see the weather has not
improved
We're now on the 401 heading to
the little town of McGregor
REMEMBER OUR FRIENDS

August at
