HIKING THE MASSACRE TRAIL

1848
A smouldering conflict between the Apache and Mexican miners came to a head when the miners attempted to remove
an amount of gold
The Apache pinned them down against a wall and the Mexican miners died there at that place which became known as Massacre Grounds

We started out on the trail coming across an area of Prickly Pear cactus

We are all bundled up
It is still cold here in Arizona

Mary is sporting her touque

Nicole has a French Beret
Eugene a ball cap!!

In the distance you can see
Three Peaks which was dusted with
snow the other day

I'm not sure what they are looking at?????

We are getting into more rock formations as we start to climb

Here we have two fellows with the
same Arizona sweatshirt
Must be their favourite

Hans is taking in the beauty of the hike
We are definitely working our way up

Oh my............

Remember Mary?
Here is her 'other' half Carl

These boots were made for walking
not
hiking

Our next door neighbour Don
came hiking with us for the first time
You can bet he will be purchasing hiking boots for his next hike!!

The Ocotilla cactus is right on the edge of the cliff
That is where the Mexican miners met their waterloo

Rest time before the descent

We don't look very happy here...ha
We're ready to go
It was a good hike up

In the distance you can see the Praying Hands
It was our hike last week

Funny...I don't remember taking this photo
Just came to me
Joe took it
A Bonsai out in the middle of a mountain top

You can see the hikers here there and everywhere

It was actually the sky that caught my eye here
soooo blue

I love this shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch catching a moment
through his lens

Rocks here have taken on a green tinge

Joe said this would be a great place to bring someone to show them all the different cactus

It was a grand hike
Tomorrow
Picket Post
followed by a hiking get-together in our desert backyard

This girl is not hiking
That boy is hiking

I'll give him the camera!

  3. Gorgeous scenery!!! I could easily tolerate the cold if the sun were shining. Looks like everyone enjoyed the hike. I'd take a day off too if I were you. Keep on loving life. Miss you.
