Our last day on the island
I was up with the birds on Wednesday morning
The river was like glass
so smooth
We worked like dogs that day finishing up the closure of the cottage
Stayed the night with our friend Carole
so we could get an early start Thursday morning
We were across the bridge around 6:45
however
wouldn't you know
we were sent over for a random check
Of course we had to leave everything in the truck including our coffee
We waited awhile then the custom officer
called Joe over
Question
What happened in 1963???
What.........said Joe
I have no idea
My response
That was before we were married
Oh yeah......
Joe was on his way home from university in Alberta
......ran out of money
........was attempting to hitchhike
across the border
NOT ALLOWED
Just catching a bus he said
Into the slammer he went for the night
Imagine...........
after 48 years he was still
'in the books'
or
'in the computer'
Custom officer was amused at the story
and
sent us on our way
WHEW!!
We are on our way....a bit foggy
Lots of colour
Interesting evening sky in Iowa
with all the jet streams
Sun coming up in Omaha Nebraska
Our bed for the first night
The air mattress deflated during the night
The dog slept all night
The cats frolicked until the middle of the night
We slept off and on until around 3 when we finally
went into a deep sleep
Even slept in until 7:30
Now that was an experience
I don't have it down pat yet
but will give it another whirl on our way to Arizona
Surrounded by wheat
Here is a real cowboy
The GPS sent us on a two lane highway heading from S Dakota to Wyoming on a route to Billings Montana
Afer 40 k we thought we should turn around and head back to town
Good thing we did as it was going to be a 4 hour trip
It was getting close to 6 p.m.
Found out there were no gas stations along this route
(someone was watching out for us)
Take a look at this picture
The sky was ever changing
FOR SALE
What a trailer
Even has antlers above the door!
Windmills amongst a snow fence
Alberta sky
Greetings from the barn
We have arrived in Calgary

Soooooo beautiful
Oh boy
We have arrived
safe and sound

Late Sunday afternoon while driving through Kelowna we stopped at Lyndsay's Mom's home for dinner
What a delight to sit down to a home cooked meal after being on the road
and
I must say
Joe and I were most thankful to be sharing their Thanksgiving dinner

I like the new truck! And I see you have been on my blog. Thanks for the comments. Glad to know you are at your first stop on the way to AZ. Enjoy family time and grape harvest. We had planned to leave yesterday for AZ, but Curt is having some medical tests. Nothing serious we hope, but we do not know when we are leaving for AZ now.
ReplyDeleteDianne, from your pictures I've seen this young man grow up and must say I was stunned to see his whiskers !! I'm like : What he's grown up so fast !! lol Even from the perpesctive of the blog ! The truck bed looks very cozy even if the air mattress deflated, lol. Gwennie is such a bed hog and she puts out warmth....among other things...he,he,he ! Great photos, love the country scenes, fall colours, the cowboys...Keep them coming Dianne, I've missed them :o)
