FROM ONTARIO TO BRITISH COLUMBIA

Friday September 28, 2012
Alarm went off at
6:30 a.m.
It's time!!!!!

Early morning on the St. Clair

Called the ferry shack for a 8:30 pickup
Answering machine clicked in
That's strange???
Left a message
We waited
No cart no driver
SO......
I decided to take a walk over to the main dock to see what was up

Much to my delight the deer were on the path

Lots of action going on at the dock
Bringing a piece of equipment over on the barge

When I got to the dock the ferry was on the other side of the river
The boat sat there for a time then headed up river to Pier 90
S.... Shoot Shucks
'We want to get off the island'
Luckily Marcus (in the red sweat shirt)
took me back to the cottage in the cart and we loaded up
Marcus told us the reason why the phone call switched over to messages  The ferry driver had fallen in the river with the phone in his pocket
Must say the ferry driver was fine, just a little wet!!!!

As children my brother and I would say
Good bye ol' river as we drove back to Chatham from the 'shack' which was just outside Corunna on the St. Clair River
When I left I said
Goodbye ol' cottage

The trailer was packed so Gwennie had to fit in wherever
 she could find room

Joe taking a minute to re group

Just after 11 a.m. we were in Michigan

Fall has arrived

Sun going down in Wisconsin
Our destination for the night
Eau Claire
Arrived at the Best Western Hotel
(pet friendly)
at 10:30
Tons of traffic and construction around the Chicago/Rockford areas
I said to Joe.....
Not coming this route next year!
We did pick up an hour though so that was good

We continue to be surrounded by the beauty of nature

Minnesota welcomes us!
Hello to Arizona friends
Karol  Liz and Dubbie

Spotted this sign.....
'The boy' had introduced us to Five Guys
Yum Yum

Also spotted # 99
Wonder if the driver is a fan of
Wayne Gretsky?????
Ha Ha

An old Ford
When the driver wanted to switch lanes
he had to use hand/arm signals!

What's the story behind the kilt and matching socks?????

Hand written on the back of this SUV
'We love Watertown football'
I wonder if this is the same Watertown ND
where our Arizona friends Curt and Coleen live?

The sign on the truck says
SOLD
Really?????

A limo on end out in a field
Did not see the sign for advertisement

The audio book
Judge and Jury by James Patterson
took us across country on Saturday
Normally I do not listen to story tapes
however
this one grabbed me
I was right into the story
It was my turn to drive
I was happily puttering along when my ears picked up
Ding Ding
S.... Shoot Shucks
The gas light came on
Oh brother!!!!!
This happened once before when I had the wheel!!!!!
Remember we are in Montana
Towns and gas stations are far and few between
Oh......
Slowed down the truck and forged ahead
Luck was on our side once more
or
I should say on my side
We rolled in
The truck took a
 FULL TANK OF GAS

While Joe was filling up I went over to check out this truck
A beauty once upon a time

Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Stretching our legs

Check out the rack on this Elk
Photo is a little out of focus
but I thought Graham woud appreciate the photo

Montana sunset

Sun coming up in Wolfe Point Montana
The receptionist at the hotel told Joe there were fire fighters
staying at the hotel
The fellows were from a reserve in Arizona and only fight fires on reserves
They had been fighting a fire in Montana where many Bison perished in the fires

CLICK CLICK CLICK
I got him
While travelling at 70 miles per hour it is hard to catch some 'things'
The side mirror gets in my way most of the time!!

Sitting by the side of the road while we waited for the Sherrif
to write up a ticket
Paid our $20.00 and were on our way again
The speed limit went between 70 and 75 mph
Ha....we were in the wrong section at the time!!!!

When I looked at this photo on the computer I thought
it looked like a painting
The 'colours' are soft and almost muted

Destination Calgary

To be continued................

  2. Hello, my friends. I just love "traveling with you." Life is always an adventure, to say the least. How much fun. Love your photo-journalistic style of communicating to those of us at home. (is that a word?) I giggled out loud about the "wet" man and telephone! Stay safe, and thanks for keeping in touch with all of us. The photos of the fall foliage are absolutely breath-taking! Thanks for sharing.

So glad you were able to get away even without the ferry. Loved your fall colours....that photo shot did look like a painting. Wow...it was so beautiful. Do enjoy the rest of the trip. Getting ready for T'Giving wondering where you will be. Beautiful day today....no wonder I love the Fall. The colours marvellous on the Golf Course. Happy T'Giving. Take care.

  6. Your friends are right. We can sit in our chairs and enjoy your adventures from the safety and comfort of our own homes. Every cross-country trip is an adventure for the two of you! Geez...running out of gas in MT? YIKES! Packed, but can't get off the island? Reservations, but in the wrong town? I hope you are writing about these trips Dianne. They are a story in themselves!

There is a Watertown MN which is probably where the vehicle was from. And we are SD, not ND...not that it matters to your story. I didn't look at your blog for a couple of days and had a sweet surprise this morning. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
