Sunday the 30th of September
When I saw the front of this truck it took me back
49 years when I was fist dating Joe
He was driving a car that had belonged to his Aunt Mamie
The car's name was Myrtle
She was black
She was old
She had holes in the floorboard of the passenger side
but
She got us to where we wanted to go!!!!!!!!
Not many cars on the road
As we drove through a very small town named Hinsdale we saw this sign
We spent quite a bit of time in the store
Joe being a 'potter' himself had a good conversation with the potter
She had a shop full of wonderful pottery
We picked up coffee mugs
Just up the road from the pottery store was this painting
Pretty cute!!!!
Alberta sky
Gwendolyn took turns going from the back seat to the front seat
Spoiled?
YUP
Home home on the range
An old grain elevator
We came into the outskirts of Calgary around 6 p.m.
We travelled this route in order to pick up furnishings that Christine and Curt had left behind when they moved back to Ontario
We called the couple that were storing the items
Left a message on their phone although they knew we were coming to town on Sunday
Got to the apartment building
Left another message
Decided to have dinner around the corner at Jack Astors
Sat in the parking lot reading our Kindles until 10 p.m.
No call.....
Went back to the apartment building once again
We then left Calgary for Camrose where I had made reservations at the Best Western earlier in the day
Arrived
Where is the Best Western?????
Drove around and around then checked with another hotel to get directions
The Best Western had been bought out by Super 8
Checked in there
They had no confirmation of our booking
What????
But??????
I had called Canmore
INSTEAD OF
Camrose
OH MY GOSH
Hopped back in the truck
and
headed for Canmore which is just before the Banff gates
arriving around midnight!!!!!
Might add it was a beautiful hotel
but we were not there long enough to enjoy it
Sat at a table where we could look out at the moutains while having breakfast
That was nice!!!!!
Going through the gates to Banff National Park
Travelling along the Trans Canada
Whenever we travel this highway we look forward to stopping in Field BC for lunch
Oh dang!!!!!!
Field is a tiny community that backs up to the mountain
Rocky Mountain Big Horned Female Sheep
Near Golden
On to Sicamous
This is another place where we stop!
We stopped by the Sicamous hockey rink to see if
Beau's friend Cam was there
The boys have played hockey together in Arizona since
they were 8 years old
Sicamous is in the same hockey league as the Osoyoos Coyotes where Beau played last year
Also
Beau's friend Cody played on the same team as the boys while growing up
Cody is now playing for a team in Pennsylvania
The team is in the same league as the
Port Huron Fighting Falcons where Beau is a team member
SMALL SMALL WORLD
Too bad Cam was not at the rink
It would have been fun to surprise him
We have always wanted to stop at the Log Barn
Today was the day!
This was the craziest thing to watch
I put corn in a tin cup which was attached to a rope
The goats put their foot on a pedal which brought the rope up to them
The cup then emptied out the corn
These goats are smart!!!!!!!!!!
Ha
This is Joe and I with our cat
This spot must be very popular
I talked to a bus driver and asked where he was coming from or where he was going?
He had picked up these folks who had flown into Seattle from Japan
They had been to Banff and Lake Louise
and were working their way back to the US
They were quite taken with Gwendolyn
Coming up the hill
Ethan and Garen were there to greet us!!!
YEAH
What can I say
We're here!!!!!!!!
The O'Rourke farm
Penticton BC
P.S. Just a little note for the gals who read this blog
During our trip west besides listening to an audio book
I read a book on my Kindle
Called
The Shoemaker's Wife
A GOOD READ
A
REALLY GOOD READ!!
So much fun reading your blog today. Brought a smile to my face to see the familiar sights from our recent trip to Calgary. Love the animal crossings over the highway! Oh what fun it is to ride along with you and Joe. Have great family fun time now.
ReplyDeleteThe Log Barn looked like a fun stop. Kids and adults would love the goat walk & feeding. Glad you arrived safely. How sweet the grandsons were waiting for you. Will Curt & Christine ever get the rest of their belongings? Gwennie makes friends wherever she is! How funny.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Joe! Have fun nannying, granny! Keep us all posted. We leave Monday.
I really enjoyed reading your blog. Thank you for thinking of Cam while in Sicamous. He's very disappointed he missed you. It looks like such a beautiful trip you took.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time in Penticton!

Finally read the blog!!! It was great mom. I absolutley love the picture of the Alberta sky...I think that is what you called it? With all of the hay rolled up, I have always loved the fields with them. Someday I will do a painting of them :-)It is my new desltop background! SB
