Terminal 3
Detroit to Phoenix
Joe and I were at the gate with bells on
I hope they were as happy to see us
as we were them
however
I think they were happiest to be out of the cold
and
into the warmth of sunny Arizona
After Sue and Donna Mae got settled
Joe treated them to his
Margarita special
served on the back deck
overlooking the desert
as the sun settled behind the mountains
in the distance
Now it's Friday
We are driving through the Superstition Mountain wilderness and will go two miles past Canyon Lake to Tortilla Flat which has a population of six
Tortilla Flat is the last remaining stage coach stop along the Apache Trail.
Tortilla Flat has been serving adventurous travelers for over 100 years with the best
"Old West' style restaurant along the
Apache Trail
Typical photos
Typical tourists!!!!!
While waiting for lunch to arrive
( famous hamburgers
and one BLT without the bacon!)
the girls signed their names to $1.00 bills
The walls of the restaurant are covered with bills
MONEY BILLS THAT IS
I don't know the history as to how it got started
but I would think almost everyone who walks into
the restaurant goes along with this crazy tradition
If you're
FEMALE
you must................
Take a trip to the ladies room
Let me tell you
There was lots of giggling going on
and
lots of flashes of the camera
as ladies lined up to get their pictures taken
It's like killing two birds with one stone
a pee break
and
a photo session!!!!
Lots of Western props
Sue was intrigued with this gentleman's T shirt
He thought we should check out the
front of the shirt
We told him he was going to be famous
as he was to be included in the blog
The poor fellow was just minding his
own business while he waited
in line at the
Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop
We then left Tortill Flat and drove up to the Dam Road
Joe wanted the girls to see and feel the terrain
of the land
Normally when we drive over this area
part of the road is under water
We drove to an area where the Canyon Vistas hikers go
You can either walk down the road to the Dam
or
take the trail that takes you around the mountain
that is in the background
Here is the one lane bridge at Canyon Lake
The girls were in awe of the beauty
We spotted the horses on our way home
This was icing on the cake
A true western scene!!!
WE HAD A FUN DAY
OMG I'm so jealous !!!! I'd love to go sight seeing with you....I love the rugged terrain, the vast open desert spaces, Tortilla looks like a fun, yummy little place and that olde fashion icecream parlor....envious. Oh and I forgot to mention the warmth and the MARGARITAS.
