SUPERIOR HOME TOUR ART AND ANTIQUE SHOW

It's Sunday morning
That means
Church
Breakfast
and
An Adventure

It has been raining in Arizona for the past few days
Sunday morning was no exception

The GPS took us to Church Street
This front lawn caught my eye
 Cholla painted in bright colours

We arrived in Superior at 8:30
Mass 9:00
We thought we would be putting in time
Wrong!!
As I said
The GPS took us to Church Street
In the distance we could see
St. Francis high in the sky
But
We went this way we went that way
We asked for directions
We were under and around Highway 60
A true maze!!!!!

We made it with time to spare

A family of Mom Dad and three girls sat in front of us
Oh My Gosh
Check out the fancy frilly white socks
and
Silver sparkly little heels
Cute or what!!!!!!!!!!

After Mass we climbed in the truck
We were in search of a place to eat breakfast
We had only gone a few yards when we spotted a Cafe kitty corner to the church
Joe and I had eaten at a few years ago
We re-parked the truck and headed in
Now the story begins................

First of all Devonna went to the washroom
No toilet paper
No paper towels

Ken ordered a hot tea
Iced tea arrived

Three cups of coffee arrived along with hot tea
Sniff Sniff Sniff
Taste Taste Taste
We asked the waitress if it was flavoured coffee???
Cinnamon Vanilla
Honestly the three of us really tried to drink the coffee
We just couldn't do it
We asked if she might have 'regular' coffee
Not in the restaurant but she would call her sister to bring coffee over to the Cafe

We ordered breakfast
While waiting we were entertained with Mexican music
However
The music was very very loud
One of us slipped into the other room and turned the music down a bit
Much better!!

Must say we were the only people in the Cafe and it seemed forever before breakfast was served
WE ATE IN SHIFTS
I was first with two poached eggs and toast
Next came Joe's meal
We were through by the time Ken's two pancakes arrived on a little bread and butter plate
He shared a few bites with Devonna and I
Next Devonna's breakfast
Then
Ken's 'main' breakfast

We were treated to real coffee
The sister went to Circle K and picked up coffee just for us!!!!!!!!
THANKS

Coffee Mate was on the table
We asked if we might have milk for our coffee
Sure!!!!!!

They were very accommodating and kept apologizing
They just got off to a slow start

Breakfast at Cafe Piedra Roja
was interesting
Breakfast at Cafe Piedra Roja
was tasty
Will we go back to the Cafe
YOU BET!!!!!
The ladies were very friendly and accommodating

The boys left a big tip!!

When we first arrived at the Cafe we were taken to  another entrance as the main door area was flooded due to the rain
Here you can see where a trench is being dug

Just up the street from the Cafe this road was closed because of the runoff from the mountains

Superior was a mining town
In their day these hotels would have thrived

Want a cold beer????

As we walked the streets we came across these dogs
Both were chained
They were 'happy' to see us and wagged their tails!

Meet Doc
Doc is half Native American
He was accepted as a Healer
and only a Healer can obtain this type of Didgeridoo

Pottery was being fired in this small kiln

The Rainbow House
200 N Magma Street

Upon entering the home of Marilee Lasch
A true artsy fartsy woman

Marilee could not get financing to buy the home eight and a half years ago unless she built a kitchen
This is the outcome!
The photo above and below show one large room

The room once upon a time was a daylight garage/shop

A view of Picket Post from her bedroom balcony

Every so often we saw these tall tall trees around and about in Superior

221  223  225 Magma Avenue
The Copper cottages or Casitas 'little houses'
have been part of the Bribiescas family since the 1950s
The cottages have been restored and are rented out
The bathroom sink was replaced with a restaurant kitchen sink
NEAT!!!!!!!!!

This kitty was friendly
and
Meowed  Meowed  Meowed
Finally she let us pet her

76 San Pedro Street
Home of Pete and Shelly Casillas
Four from One, One from Four
A work in progress

# 66
In the early 1920s the ground floor had evolved into four separate houses all joined together
Each had it's own address while the basement level was only divided into two separate sections
The  home belonged to Pete's grandparents

What we saw was only a fraction of the renovations completed
It does not begin to describe the dreams he has for this home

One more puppy 'fix'

475 W East Street
Anna Jeffrey
This is the house that 'she' grew up in
Her Father made the swing set for her
Her Father had multiple callings
He was a machinist by trade
He was a gunsmith
He was a preacher
While in the home I noticed a piano
It is more than 100 years old and came from one of her Dad's churches
I have learned something here......
I need to read the handout before touring the home!
Next time!!!!

When we finished the tour we headed towards Globe to check out the waterfalls
This waterfall is just past the tunnel

Heading home
Weaver's Needle way over there

LIFE IS GOOD

  4. The exploration was really unique, from the varied cacti and items wildly painted, to a rustic restaurant and rugged scenery. Incredible excursions, thanks for taking me along :) Please give my love, hugs & kisses to our Gwennie xoxoxoxo

  5. Sunday was supposed to be Ladies Day Out in Superior, but because of the weather we did NOT go. The home of Wyatt Earp's common-law wife was to be on the tour. That is why I wanted to go. You didn't see her home? I am sorry I missed the tour of homes. Thanks tho for letting me see it through your camera lens. Hugs!
